Bridesdress Revisited

I mean, a new dress doesn’t get you anywhere; it’s the life you’re living in the dress, and the sort of life you had lived before, and what you will do in it later.

BTG and I had an expedited engagement.  While both of us were incredibly fond of throwing a large celebration in honor of our union, we chose an intimate ceremony only four months following the proposal for rather unromantic reasons involving shared health care coverage. Despite this sprint to the altar, we are still planning a fête next fall for our family and friends who were unable to attend our nuptials.

The event will be held at the Great House on the Crane Estate in Ipswich, Massachusetts.  The house lends itself to a Gatsby or Gosford Park feel, does it not?

I want our guests to feel as if they’ve been invited out to our country estate for an elegant dinner, dancing and parlour games.  My mother, who due to our earlier haste was unable to fashion a wedding gown, will be tasked with the vital assignment of outfitting me for this affair.  Since I’m already wed, I’m not seeking a wedding gown.  Instead, I want to embody another time and place.

This Jenny Packham dress has been in my files since the day BTG proposed.

But then I thought, maybe a little color would do me some good.  Blue?

Or the green that captured everyone’s attention in Atonement.

But then I saw this champagne number on Drew and I gasped for breath.

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I wore a champagne colored dress with a ivory overlay. Do it!

  2. What a gorgeous place to have your celebration. Also love the 1920's feel of the dresses you are looking at. Champagne seems to be an appropriate color. Thanks for sharing.

  3. What a beautiful place. Without knowing your coloring it's hard to say, but the first is my favorite. I'm a strong believer in you'll know it when you see it. Enjoy these days!

  6. What a perfect place for a party! I'm not a fan of champagne. Not many people can pull off that color. I think even Drew looks washed out. All you notice is her lipstick. I can't pick a color, because I don't know your coloring. If you're dark-haired, I'd go with a jewel tone. If blonde, a light blue or rose. Predictable, I know, but there's a reason for that. It's what those colors look best in.

  7. I have been to the Crane estate. How marvelous!!
There is an excellent, magical inn there, you know. Highly recommended!
And I adore the champagne dress.... you just need to be careful with your make-up.
    Red lipstick is a must!!

  8. I love that Jenny Packham dress, it's gorgeous in person (we have it at work) but if you're up for color, go for it! Jenny Packham makes a similar dress in green, a bride changes into it in this wedding. It's so beautiful.
